BTTF#021 - The BFG, Hail Caesar!, Bullitt

July 28, 2016
Hello and welcome to the 21st episode of the main podcast.  This edition takes a look at the cinema release of Steven Spielberg’s latest film, The BFG, the home release of the Coen brothers’ last film, Hail, Caesar! and the Steve McQueen classic, Bullitt.

Steven Spielberg's latest release is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG.  The film tells the story of what happens when 10 year-old Sophie meets The BFG.  The film stars Mark Rylance in the title role and newcomer Ruby Barnhill takes the role of Sophie.

Hail, Caesar! is set in 1950s  Hollywood at Capital Pictures and follows the studio fixer as he tries to solve a multitude of problems while also contemplating taking a job at Lockheed.  Throw in the mix various reporters out to cause trouble and some communists and you have the latest Coen Brothers film.  The film has a good cast Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, Scarlett Johannson amongst others.

Bullitt is a classic Steve McQueen film from 1968 and contains a famous car chase around the streets of San Francisco.  Frank Bullit is a San Francisco Police Department Lieutenant who is tasked by a Senator to keep an informant alive before testifying against a mob boss and, as is the way of things in movieland, things are not as they seem and it doesn't go very well.  The film was directed by Peter Yates and, as well as McQueen, starred Robert Vaughn and Jacqueline Bissett amongst others.

Our next podcast will be a director special taking a look at the works of the late, great David Lean.  Our next main podcast will take a look at the cinema release of 400 Days, the home release is The Jungle Book and the classic film will be Dr Strangelove.
